Women born abroad find it hardest to get a job

There is an economic crisis in Sweden and unemployment is expected to increase over the next year, according to figures from Arbetsförmedlingen. This will push the groups that are already finding it hardest to get jobs even further away from the job market.
Among the people born abroad, unemployment remains high and women born outside Europe find it most difficult to get a job. Despite various job market initiatives to strengthen the opportunities of women born abroad in the labour market, there are still shortcomings, according to a report from Jämställdhetsmyndigheten.

High risk of long-term unemployment
Among women born abroad, many are unemployed, over 18%.  According to the Jämställdhetsmyndighet, women who immigrate from outside Europe, and who come to Sweden as family members, run the highest risk of long-term exclusion.

Self-employment as a path to work
According to a report from Tillväxtverket, self-employment can pave the way to work for the unemployed. The report points to trends in society that suggest an increased interest among companies in hiring rather than employing.
